Dever Architects designed this six-story, 120-room hotel to include shops, meeting rooms, and an indoor pool.  The project opened in the spring of 1987, and was so successful that the client commissioned us to add a two-story banquet hall and meeting room two years later.

The large structure commands its site from the top of a hill overlooking a broad landscaped lawn and the main road that serves the hotel.  Our design emulates the look of a traditional "East Coast Hotel," but is rendered in durable, non-combustible materials in tones of red and gray.  A porte-cochere, gabled on top and barrel-vaulted below, extends from the center of the hotel to offer welcome to visitors coming up the drive.

To maximize the number of rooms, we designed the sixth floor directly into the standing-seam metal roof, bringing light into it with a series of shed and gable dormers.  This strategy combines the aesthetic appeal of a varied roofline with the need to comply with zoning height restrictions, allowing for a floor that would not otherwise have been permitted.
